Sylmar Independent Baseball League celebrates 50 years

For 50 years, Sylmar Independent Baseball League, or SIBL, as it is commonly and affectionately known has been a vital part of the North East Valley Community. In 1957 the original site was established on Dronfield, between Polk and Roxford in Sylmar. It remained there for 5 years before moving to Hubbard and Eldridge (current site of L.A.Mission College) after signing a long term lease with the California Department of Mental Hygiene. That remained the SIBL's home for 17 years. In 1989, SIBL moved to its current home off of Maclay near Harding.

In a community without movie theaters, malls, or arcades, baseball and softball became the sole organized activity for many kids in Sylmar and neighboring communities. SIBL became a home away from home. Kids grew up there. Then their kids grew up there and now their grandkids are playing there

Many of our players went on to play professional baseball as well as College Softball, not to mention the many former SIBL players who now coach high school and college baseball and softball.

SIBL Baseball and Softball both offer the chance for boys and girls to learn about teamwork along with the fundamentals of the game. They can develop lasting friendships with their teammates that will continue later in life. They will have the opportunity to meet other kids outside their class and neighborhood and share the baseball/softball experience with them.

The SIBL fields are nestled against the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains. It's a great place for boys and girls to learn and play softball and baseball. Each side has their own snackbar and restroom facilities. We are an all volunteer organization that is family friendly. We encourage you to come help us celebrate our history, and become a part of our future.
